Volounico – Volo11, 2013
10:58 min
This video was realised in occasion of the exhibition FREEVOLO – Pigeon in residence, in the spaces of Marselleria, in Milan. It is part of an ongoing series called volounico: aerial filming made by means of a small camera attached onto the breast of homing pigeons. The camera records the path from Marselleria to the main dovecote. The final idea of the project is to develop an aerial mapping over different Italian cities, utilising a non-conventional viewpoint, which is that of the animal rather than the man.
Filippo Leonardi lives and works in Catania. In 2002, exploring the notion of identity, Leonardi generated a series of installations and participatory events including Super eroi (Super heroes), developed in the context of the Biennale Internazionale Arte Giovane di Torino (International Biennial of Young Art in Tourin). In 2007 he produced Senza ragione (Without reason), a cycle of works borne from a reflection on the use of reason in plants. In 2009, at PAV in Turin, he realised the environmental installation Più nessuna danza (No dance anymore) within the exhibition Greenhouse. In 2010, the series Colombaia (Dovecote) took shape as a work in progress borne to put in communication museums and outskirts, by using carrier pigeons. In 2013 Leonardi developed the cycle of works Perchè mangiamo gli animali (Why we eat animals), an analysis on how the human kind treats different animal types today. In 2015 he produced Flora plastic (Plastic flora), a body of works exhibited for the first time at BOCS in Catania.
