Daniels Road and other stories
Daniels Road and other stories is a collection of prints, photos, drawings and short stories threaded together by narratives of travel, work, home and fear of the dark.

Images come together in the large collage work ‘Daniels Road’ to suggest a possible navigation through a world in transit. A character, Daniels, travels with unpredictable logic through a sequence of places, rooms, roadways and memories. His fantasies are fuelled by real events, all of which contribute to the internal map he is assembling.

Other works in the show operate more like film stills, catalysts for recognisable story lines. These images trade on depicting both actual and imaginary places:
- a road snakes off over the next rise in the landscape in the pale yellow of a winter morning
- two men locked in tense negotiation partially emerge from the shadows
- an elegantly proportioned doorway printed onto transparent material

The long-play video ‘Livin for you’ provides a soundtrack. Footage reveals a man engaged in the labour or making a DIY dressing gown; a tinny tape-deck struggles to be heard over the sound of his sewing machine.

These works offer an open-ended dialogue and reportage about an overly- mediated world. They are accompanied by a guide in the form of a small booklet containing six short stories.
